What a ride. The 2025-2026 season gave us every emotion a hockey season can hold, and it ended where every Vegas fan dreams of being: the Stanley Cup Final. Falling to the Carolina Hurricanes in six games stings, but the road to get there made this one of the most memorable seasons in franchise history.
Season 2025-2026 RECAP
It almost did not happen. With just eight games left in the regular season, the front office made a stunning call. They fired Bruce Cassidy, the coach who delivered the 2023 Cup, and handed the bench to John Tortorella. The team had been sliding for weeks. Tortorella steadied it, pushed Vegas into the playoffs, and then rode that energy all the way to the Final. A coaching change that late almost never works. This one did.
The Final itself was no gentleman's sweep. Carolina arrived as the heavy favorite, having lost just one game across the first three rounds. Vegas did not flinch. The Knights stole Game 1 on the road, 5-4, then won a wild double-overtime Game 3 by the same score, handing Carolina two of the only three losses it suffered all postseason. The series sat even at two games each before the Hurricanes pulled away and closed it out with a 3-0 shutout in Game 6 on June 14. Not the ending we wanted, but nobody handed Carolina this Cup.
This was the third Stanley Cup Final appearance in the franchise's nine seasons, a run of sustained contention almost no expansion team in any sport has matched. The 2023 banner still hangs, and this group made sure the standard behind it stayed intact.
A special thank you goes out to the players who carried us:
Knight of the SEASON
Mitch Marner
His elite playmaking and energy immediately transformed the team's offensive dynamic in his first season in gold, and he led all scorers through the playoff run.
- Mark Stone: The Captain remained the undeniable heart and soul of the roster, leading by example through every grind.
- Carter Hart: After nearly two years away from the NHL, he claimed the starting job and backstopped Vegas through three rounds with strong numbers on the way to the Final. The Final did not go his way, but getting all the way back to this stage in his first season here was a story worth telling on its own.
- Who will be the head coach? John Tortorella orchestrated an incredible turnaround after arriving in March, but he left his future unconfirmed after the Final. Will he return for a full campaign, or will management bring in someone else?
- How is the goaltending situation solved? Carter Hart provided crucial stability down the stretch, but the overall crease dynamic needs addressing. Management must finalize a long-term plan and determine the roles of the remaining depth chart.
- What will be the new defense structure? With the offseason officially underway, our blue line could see significant restructuring. Finding the right balance of physicality and puck-moving ability will be a top priority.
- How will we navigate the salary cap? As always, balancing high-impact contracts with the need to sign reliable depth players will test the front office's creativity once again.
What's Next?
While the sting of the Final is fresh, the business of hockey never stops. According to our 2026 NHL Off-Season Calendar, the front office has a tight turnaround. The NHL Draft kicks off at KeyBank Center in Buffalo on June 26, followed by the opening of Free Agency on July 1.

Thank you for everything, Golden Knights. Now, on to the summer!
Big Questions for the Next Season
As we look ahead, the front office faces several critical decisions to keep the championship window wide open:
